Dog Agility in Malaysia!
Dog Agility in Malaysia
I was invited to judge an Agility Competition last Saturday dated 14 March 2009 in Kulia, Johor. The 6th & 7th Agility Trials was organized by IOI Mall, Globalpets and PetnYou. (http://www.petnyou.com.my/) This was my 1st international judging assignment and I am very glad to have this opportunity to judge and see our neighbouring country and their Dog Agility Enthusiasts in action.
The Agility Show last Saturday was a great success, they have a group of dedicated and committed bunch of fun people gather together to play and have fun in the Sport of Dog Agility. We have about 10 competitors, 3 x minpins, 1 x mini-schanzuer, 3 x JRTs, 1 x cairn terrier, and 4 x BCs.
The Trial Classes offered are Basic Jumpers, Novice Jumpers and Novice Agility. Basic Jumpers are a beginners class where food and toys are allowed in the ring. Novice Jumpers are with weaves. And Novice Agility has the contact equipments.
In between the trials, PetnYou Team did the demo for frisbee, Canine Freestyle Dancing & Flyball. The demo team did a great job to bring out the spirit of the discipline and the fun associated with the training that comes with it. Christine help us to Judge the Doggy Fashion show which saw a high number of participants of 25 dogs! It was nice to see the dogs parade around the ring and some even did tricks. Debra helped out as steward and assisting as a scribe and annoucer.
The Agility Trialers performed well, I am especially impressed with the smaller dogs, they are so fast and the handlers skill sets are skillful and precise. Given the limited ring size, the bigger dogs are not that lucky, they are more prone to dropping bars, committing refusals and off-course.
I am sure with the dedication and committment by people in the PetnYou Club, I am sure they will be a driving force in bringing up the Sport of Dog Agility in Malaysia.
I want to wish the PetnYou Club and the Malaysian Agility Enthusiasts a great success in this great Sport of Dog Agility.
Video and photos will be up soon.
