What is Dog Frisbee?

Disc dog is the more generic name for what is commonly called Frisbee dog. Indisc dog competitions, dogs and their human disc throwers compete in events suchas distance catching and somewhat choreographed freestyle catching. The sportcelebrates the bond between handler and dog, by allowing them to work together. The term "disc" is preferred because "Frisbee" is a trademark (held by Wham-O)for a brand of flying disc. The sport got its start in the early 1970s, paralleling the rise in popularityof Frisbee sport. The definitive moment came on August 4, 1974 when Alex Stein,a 19-year-old college student from Ohio, and his dog, Ashley Whippet, jumped thefence at a nationally broadcast baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgersand the Cincinnati Reds.[1] Stein had with him a couple of flying discs, whichhe threw for the dog. Ashley astonished the crowd with her disc-catching, as heran up to 35 miles per hour and leaped 9 feet in the air to snag theFrisbees.[2] The stunt was so novel that the game was stopped and Joe Garagiolacontinued to announce the flying disc action on the field. Finally, after eightminutes, Stein was escorted off the field and arrested.[1] The nationallytelevised exhibition of Ashley's skill did much to fuel interest in the sport.Stein worked with Irv Lander and Eldon McIntire to create the Frisbee Dog WorldChampionship for people and their dogs. Even today, Stein and McIntire continueto contribute to the sport. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Our Weekend Trip!

We had a fantastic trip just over the weekend to KL! It was a pleasure to Judge the Pet N You National Obedience and Agility events. It is a Gathering of dog lovers from Penang, Perlis, JB and KL! From Min Pins, Cairn, Silky Terrier, Pekingnese, Malinios to Curly Coated Retriever. Not forgeting JRTs and Border Collies and their local MBs(Malaysian Bred dogs). The Trip was a fruitful one and it was interesting to know how our counterparts do in Agility and Obedience over in Malaysia. In brief; Big Event, Huge Crowd, Lots of Shopping ( I really mean LOTS!) , Friendly People and Lovely Dogs!
In Obedience: A total of 39 entries for Saturday and 37 for Sundays. In Agility: A total of 53 entries on Saturday and 55 on Sunday. As we were both Judging, we did not have time to take much photos, relying on Fawn to do that. (Paging for Fawn!)But here are some taken from our Phone Cameras.

Looked too good to eat huh? I see our dogs tug toy lookalike and a water bowl and ball and a star toy. Wow these cake makers are really into Agility cakes now.

Our Singapore USDAA Scribe lending assistance, thanks Anderson and also thank you to Vivien our newly trained scribe. (T hee hee)
